UC Davis Plant Breeding Academy Class X Launched!

In 2026, the UC Davis Plant Breeding Academy will launch Class X, marking two decades. Since its founding in 2006, the Academy has trained over 450 professionals from more than 60 countries, supporting seed industry innovation across the Americas, Europe, and Africa.
Specifically designed for busy seed industry personnel, this two-year program, provides an unmatched opportunity to develop and retain top-tier plant breeding talent. The curriculum delivers the depth of a Ph.D., with a sole focus on applied plant breeding, taught by practicing breeders and industry experts.
“Our roots are in traditional plant breeding that works every time,” says Dr. Jovan Djordjevic, Academy Director and instructor, “but we continuously evolve with the industry. Starting with Class X, we’re proud to introduce Digital Twin technology, a must tool in predictive breeding.”
Dr. Kendra Armstrong, a core instructor, adds:
“Digital twins allow breeders to simulate and predict inbred and hybrid performance before committing to costly field trials. In Class X, participants will explore how these tools, combined with genomic and phenotypic data, can accelerate genetic gain and improve selection decisions.”
Whether your goal is to upskill early-career breeders or give senior staff access to cutting-edge tools, the UC Davis Plant Breeding Academy continues to lead the way in global professional education for the seed industry.
Class X begins in February 2026!
